VISUAL ARTS EDUCATION 9
ART 9 - Prerequisite: Grade 8

The Art 9 course is an introduction to a broad range of visual arts and artists. An awareness of how art and artists interact with the environment, society, culture, and individuals is explored. A variety of media is used by the student to develop understanding within these themes. Instruction in the basic elements and techniques of art is given throughout the course, and the students work with a variety of drawing media, tempera paint, printmaking, and sculpture materials.


VISUAL ART 10
ART 10 - Prerequisite: none

The Art 10 course is a diverse extension of the grade 9 program. Student growth and understanding in the visual arts is developed further by a continued exploration of curricular topics. Instruction in technique continues, and students are introduced to a greater variety of drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture materials.


VISUAL ART 20
ART 20 - Prerequisite: Art 10 recommended

The Art 20 course reviews art elements and techniques introduced in Art 9 and Art 10, and takes them to a more advanced level. Curricular topics for Art 20 are explored with a greater variety of media than in previous years. More frequent personal reflection of process and product is used to help students develop their understanding and skill in the visual arts.


VISUAL ART 30
ART 30 - Prerequisite: Art 20 recommended

The senior program is an extension of everything covered in previous years. Curricular topics are studied in this course, but students are expected to use their understanding, skills, and personal reflections more frequently to made choices that guide independent growth.


DRAWING AND PAINTING 20/30
DRAWING AND PAINTING 20/30 - Prerequisite: Art 10
This is an advanced class for students who would like to extend their knowledge and experience in visual arts. Emphasis is placed on individualized skill development and understanding through the use of two-dimensional drawing and painting media. This course is recommended for students interested in better preparing themselves for life-long participation in the arts or an art-related career.
